Coming to you live from the Bear Mountain Bridge Motel in Fort Montgomery, NY. We have decided to take a much needed Zero tomorrow. It’s a great feeling to be going to bed - with no plans other than sleeping in, eating, and resting all day.

Today was really cool. The 9.5 mile hike this morning went pretty smoothly. We finished up about 10:30am. There were 2 significant climbs - but knowing we were headed into town made everything OK. The last part of the day was climbing/descending Bear Mountain. WOW!!  Unbelievable views of the Hudson River. We could also see the New York City skyline. We’re only 30 miles or so from New York City.  Fort Montgomery is a few minutes from West Point (Army). We drove by the campus later in the day.  This whole area is really scenic. There must have been 1,000+ people on Bear Mountain and the surrounding Hudson River Valley. The smells of barbecue, music playing - a special Fathers Day for a lot of people out there.

When we finished the hike, we called the motel and they picked us up. We ran into Punchline, Overboard, and Blueberry. I haven’t seen these guys since Waynesboro before the Smokies. I’ve caught up to them quickly after pushing some bigger miles. A super nice couple run the motel. “Grandpa” picked us up.  They also did our laundry for us and brought us to a grocery store for a resupply.

I’ve been laying down since about 4pm.  My body is really fatigued right now. I’ve been overheated most of the week. I’ve drank 5 large Gatorades since I’ve been here today.

My goal tomorrow is plan out my strategy to get to Hanover, NH. We only have about 50 miles left in NY. We’ve heard from Sherpa Mike. He’s back on the trail feeling better after a couple rest days. He’s about 40 miles behind right now. Maybe he’ll be able to catch up with us.

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there. Goodnight from the Hudson River Valley!
