2,000 miles - 2,000 miles - 2,000 miles

A really big day for me. I eclipsed the 2,000 mile marker on the AT. I can’t believe it!  This last 4-1/2 months has been an incredible ride. So much has happened - it’s hard to wrap my head around it.

As I pass the 2,000 marker (a hiker badge of honor) - I am truly thankful for this opportunity and for being healthy and safe to this point. I still have a long road ahead - I just need to stay focused and patient. I’m going to include the “Miles Left” in my initial summary stats from here to Katahdin - it’s my own personal countdown.

Today was a nice Nero. We did 7.3 miles - completing the course by 11:25am. We did have 2 - 4,000’ peaks - South Crocker and North Crocker Mountains - so it was a pretty strenuous effort (just shorter). We had setup a shuttle ride to the Hostal of Maine upon our completion. The place we’re staying is one of the nicest Hostals on the entire AT. The afternoon was filled with chores - shower, laundry, resupply, packing gear for tomorrow, and eating large quantities of food (I weighed in at 177 pounds today - down about 16 pounds from when I started).

The Hostal caretaker took us to a laundromat. The laundromat was on Sugarloaf Mountain - a big ski mountain in Maine - a really nice place. There was a bar next door to the laundromat - so we all had a drink waiting for our clothes to finish. Sam, Slider/Granger and I were together all day.

It’s 8:20pm now. Tomorrow is the last 4,000’ mountain day before Katahdin (We’ll actually only see 3,000’ once before Katahdin). Tomorrow will be a huge day. 16.6 miles is scheduled on the books. We’re going to the next valley past the Bigelows and will come back to this same Hostal for another night. We have the shuttles worked out in advance.  We’ll be slackpacking to keep the weight of the packs down.

Here’s to continued strength and good health. Here’s to knocking down the last of the 4,000’ peaks before Katahdin. 2,000 miles - it’s been a good day!!

Nice weather day
