I’m inching my way through Maine. I want to be going 15-20 miles daily - but it’s just not possible here. I have to stay patient and take what the course is giving me.
Today was a solid 10.3 mile day. The ascents were steep - but not extremely technical. The descents took the most time - with sketchy footing going down some really angled cliffs. At one point - we had to use a rope to guide us through this laddered section.
We decided to stay in Andover, ME at a place called Pine Ellis Lodging. We called the hotel at a mountain peak 4 miles from the road to setup a pickup time. We actually were able to average 2 miles/hr for the final segment. We were picked up at 4pm.
My Osprey pack performed well today. To be using a pack for the first time in the aggressive mountains of Maine - the results were about as good as I could have hoped for. It took me a bit to get comfortable with the new locations of everything - but I’m coming around. The great news - I felt like my shoulder actually hurt less today than with the Mariposa. Small sample size - we’ll see how it continues to perform
Once into town tonight - we were able to walk to a convenience store for some dinner - only a 10-15 minute walk. It’s 9pm now - I’m feeling exhausted again. Time for some sleep.
Goodnight from western Maine!
