A good Nero today in Bennington, VT. I got into town about 12:30pm. I’m staying at the Catamount Motel. They actually picked me up at the trailhead and provided shuttle service to their motel (5 miles away). There was no cell coverage at the parking area near the trail - so the motel had told me to call them when I was at Harmon Hill (1.8 miles out). They would allow 1hr. 10min and meet me at the parking area. Due to the severe technical decline - it took me nearly 1hr to cover the distance - so the timing was perfect. I shared the shuttle with a couple Long Trail thru-hikers. The trail will be a mixed bag the next 80 miles with LT and AT hikers.

The motel did my laundry for me. Sometimes these trail towns offer hotels/motels without laundry service. In order to stay competitive - they often offer to do your laundry for a fee. I paid $5 - but the convenience is nice. I didn’t need much for a resupply - so I was able to find what I needed at the gas station next to the motel. Shower, laundry, and resupply completed by 4pm. I’ve been chilling the rest of the day.

I know I mentioned I’m not going to plan my upcoming days - but some planning is necessary so you’re carrying the proper food supply. I have a 3-day, 40 mile segment to Manchester Center, VT. upcoming. 40 miles in 3 days is not bad. I’m then looking at 2 more 3 day segments (roughly 50 miles each) to get me into Hanover, NH in 9 days. (July 14th).

This plan is tentative - but is really reasonable. I was bummed a few days back when Caruso left the trail. But - maybe it was a blessing in disguise. I actually ended up adding 3 days to my plan of getting into Hanover - which will hopefully pay off in the long run. If you think about it - I’m using the next 9 days to effectively taper for my big event - which is the tough 250 mile segment in NH and the first part of Maine.

Keep it strong out there!  Wishing everybody a great week ahead!
