Costa Rica Trip

Day #7 - Wednesday, January 14th

Last full day in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. Greg, Kipp, Gus, and I hung together today. We actually did a hike to the La Fortuna Waterfall on our own - that’s usually done as a group tour.

We started our day at 8am for breakfast at the hotel. All of our breakfasts on the trip have been covered in the G-Adventures package - and all of them have been really great - with tons of options.

We then grabbed an Uber to our hiking trailhead. “La Fortuna Waterfall from Arsenal Mundo Adventures” was the name of the hike in AllTrails. It was roughly a 7-mile hike with 1500’ vertical. Challenging for sure - with 500 steps down to the base of the water and swimming location at the end of the hike.

We hung around the base of the waterfall for about an hour - taking pictures and just cooling off from the mist coming from the falls. I don’t think I’ve ever been so close to such a powerful waterfall in the past. Awesome!!

After some snacks at the waterfall - we made good time back to the trailhead. In total - the hike was about 4-hrs in length. (Side note — We got to see a coral snake on the hike to the falls - I’ve never seen one of these in person before). We then grabbed an Uber back to the hotel and had a great lunch at the hotel restaurant.

By this time it was about 3pm - we decided to take a break and relax at the pool/room. We met up with the rest of the crew at the pool and shared some stories - as the others all had some different tours from the day.

We ended the day meeting up for a 7:30pm dinner at a restaurant in the main town center of La Fortuna — Nanku. I had the grilled salmon special - excellent! We got into town about an hour before dinner and just walked around looking at shops/restaurants.

Another action-packed day in La Fortuna. Tomorrow - we have another morning hike to the Arsenal volcano and will be departing for San Jose about 2pm in the afternoon.
